What is Your Spirit Animal?
The hummingbird is my spirit animal. It is the animal that most represents how I show up in the world …
First, I will state the obvious: hummingbirds are small. And standing under 5’ tall, I can relate. And despite - it perhaps because of - their size, they have the ability to do pretty incredible things. . .
They have a unique ability to fly backwards, sideways, and hover up and down. This reminds me of my adaptability and willingness to go in unique directions and leverage different perspectives. . .
Some hummingbirds have been known to travel up to 2,000 miles to reach that destination. That kind of drive, tenacity, and endurance resonates with me! I have been known to travel any distance to get to where I want to go in life. . .
Hummingbirds do not stay stuck in one place. They flitter from flower to flower, exploring and cross pollinating. This is also true for me. My career and life can be mapped out by my pursuits of what makes me curious; and I have been able to make my work and my life better by pollinating each place that I land with my unique and diverse set of skills, interests, and contributions. . .
Lastly, hummingbirds seem to carry a bit of magic with them. A delightful surprise each time you see them. A quick and unpredictable infusion of joy. I hope that my work and presence does and will have the same effect. . .
