How Does your Instagram Feed Impact You?

Let’s have some real talk for a minute.

How many of you have filled your Instagram feed with talented, motivational, creative, amazing people?

And how many of you did this so that you would feel inspired and connected to other impact-makers?

And instead of feeling inspired, how many of you actually feel badly when you scroll through your feed because the funny, beautiful, and interesting posts with a thousand likes makes you think “what am I doing wrong?”

Yeah, me too.

If you are an entrepreneur, a creative, a speaker, a coach, a performer, or anyone who is trying to share their gifts and have an impact - it is hard to see the success of others without wondering why you aren’t experiencing that level of success. Hard to try so many different strategies and yet not have the impact that you want. Hard to have an idea, only to see it executed (sometimes better and sometimes worse) by someone else. . . .

If this resonates with you, then here are some things to remember:

1. You are exactly where you are supposed to be. Your journey, your story, and your impact will look different and have different timing. You may need to hone your skill some more before you have a larger platform. Just keep working hard and trust the process.

2. This is Instagram! The photos are filtered and curated, the copy is scrutinized over, and the likes are not an indication of IRL success.

3. There is likely a real live person - a client, a coworker, a friend - who needs to hear from you. An email that you haven’t sent, a call you need to make, a coffee date you wanted to schedule - that is where your real impact will be. That is much more impactful than a post that people will forget about in 2 minutes. Put down that phone and go make that real life impact.

I am not there yet. There are still some late nights. But much less than before. And until I strike the balance that feels right for me, I will continue to strip and let the things that no longer need my time fall away.
